It’s the beginning of the holiday season and Oradell podiatrist, Dr. Daniel Margolin wanted to celebrate the start of the Season of Giving by giving his patients a personal meet and greet with Stephen Baker the Touchdown Maker from the 1991 Giants Superbowl Championship team.

On Sunday, December 1, Giants fans lined up to meet Stephen Baker at New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell.  To get fans ready for the evening’s game, Stryker Orthopaedics provided a complete tailgate lunch for all attendees.  Hackensack UMC Fitness & Wellness Powered by the Giants gave each guest a free two week membership to the facility that is under construction in Maywood.

“The holidays are supposed to be about the joy of giving, so it was a pleasure to be able to bring together patients, friends and family to thank them on Thanksgiving weekend,” said Dr. Margolin.

Margolin has a history of giving back to the community through his Shoes for the Needy and Food for the Needy programs, recently featured on NBC News Channel 4 with Pat Battle.  He is also the local sponsor for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Bergen County Chapter where his volunteers go into local schools and provide free workshops and assemblies.

Additionally, New Jersey Foot and Ankle Centers will be collecting children’s toys from now until December 19 for CASA for Children of Bergen County.  All donations can be dropped off at 550 Kinderkamack Road, Suite 202 in Oradell.

Oradell Doctor Changing Field of Podiatry

As an associate doctor of podiatry at New Jersey Foot and Ankle Centers, Dr. Maryellen Brucato, DPM is making inroads in the field.

On December 16, her original research was published in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.  The Infectious Disease Society of America has defined gas gangrene as an infection caused by Clostridium species.  However, according to Dr. Brucato’s findings, rarely are the gas-forming soft tissue infections of the lower extremity, known as gas gangrene, actually Clostridium.

On February 28, she presented her research at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons in Orlando, Fl.

Dr. Brucato attended Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. While there, she volunteered for many races in the medical tent with the sports medicine club. She also became the President of the American Association for Women Podiatrists Student Chapter. Additionally, she served as the TUSPM student representative to the New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society.

From 2010 to 2013, Dr. Brucato completed her Podiatric Surgery Residency at Morristown Medical Center. This included extensive surgical training in all major areas of the foot and ankle including elective forefoot, rearfoot reconstruction, diabetic foot infections/amputations, trauma, and plastic surgery techniques.

She completed rotations in virtually all aspects of medicine including rotations in the emergency department, internal medicine, and vascular medicine. During residency, Dr. Brucato completed multiple research projects and publications including being honored to present her research at the national meeting of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons. In 2011, one of her research posters achieved a Finalist Award at the Atlantic Health Research Day out of hundreds of posters.

Since joining New Jersey Foot and Ankle Centers, Dr. Brucato remains active academically and also holds an attending position at Morristown Medical Center where she is able to teach the residents clinically as well as academically. She also serves as the Clinical Research Coordinator for the Podiatric Surgery Residency Program there.

Oradell, NJ—New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center is gearing up to celebrate Medical Assistants Recognition Week, October 21-25, as designated by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Medical assistants across the country will be recognized during this special week and honored on Medical Assistants Recognition Day, October 23.
In celebration of Medical Assistants Recognition Week, New Jersey Foot and AnkleCenter has planned to commemorate all medical assistants in their practice, raise awareness of this invaluable profession and encourage other medical facilities to do the same.
“The medical assistants are the backbone of the practice.  Without them, we wouldn’t be able to help so many people with such a high quality of service.  I am happy to give thanks to them this week,” says Dr. Maryellen Brucato, DPM of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center.
Medical assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures. With their unique versatility, medical assistants are proving to be the allied health professional of choice for this decade and beyond. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting continues to be projected as one of the fastest growing occupations.
The AAMA is the premier organization serving the professional interests and educational needs of medical assistants. It provides numerous services that help medical assistants put their careers on a successful and rewarding track and keep them there.

New Jersey Foot andAnkle Center is located at 550 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell and has multiple medical assistants on staff.  Owner and physician, Dr. Daniel Margolin, DPM, has spent over three years as Chairman of the Department of Podiatric Surgery at St. Peters Hospital and is currently on staff at Valley Hospital.

Town News Announces: Oradell Doctor Sponsors Foundation for a Drug-Free World

AUGUST 8, 2013
TOWN NEWS

In an effort to counterattack the illegal drug use problem in New Jersey, Dr. Daniel Margolin, DPM, of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell has created a community outreach program partnering with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

According to the U.S. Centers of Disease Control, "every day, 40 Americans die from an overdose caused by prescription painkiller abuse." Currently, opioid prescription drug overdoses kill more people than heroin and cocaine combined.

On Thursday, July 25, to Saturday, July 27, New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center volunteered over staff 16 hours by distributing the Truth About Drugs booklets to Englewood youth at the Englewood Sidewalk Sale.

"I have decided to implement this program because we live here too," said Margolin. He has been locally known for spearheading the annual Shoes for the Needy campaign for 25 years.

Margolin has made it his initiative to help out the local community by becoming a resource for drug-free education for people at such locations as local schools, after-school programs and community groups, to educate youth about the harmful effects of drugs so they can make the right decision if they come to that crossing.

Anyone interested in partaking in the drug-free education services can contact New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center's Community Outreach Coordinator, Brielle, at 973-670-7002 or email DrugFreeWorldNJ.Brielle@gmail.com.

New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center is located at 550 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell and can be reached at 201-261-9445. Margolin has spent over three years as chairman of the Department of Podiatric Surgery at St. Peter's Hospital and is currently on staff at Valley Hospital.

New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center Raise Money for Jefferson Starship Guitarist

New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center Helps Rockstar Get Back on His Feet

A benefit concert was held for Slick Aguilar, lead guitarist of Jefferson Starship.  As an attempt to help Aguilar get back on his feet, podiatrist Daniel Margolin ran a fundraiser with his staff and patients to contribute to the cause.

Aguilar has been entertaining his fans for over forty years and continued to do so until he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and required a liver transplant in July 2013.  This debilitating disease affected his ability to perform, contributing to high medical bills and living expenses for his family.

The intimate show featured Lou Gramm, the voice of Foreigner, and Marty Balin, from Jefferson Airplane/Starship, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.  Through a close friend, Margolin of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell felt the need to do more than just attend the event.

Over a two week period, New Jersey Foot and Ankle Centers ran an online competition.  At the office, staff members encouraged patients to join the competition and donate towards the cause.   They raised over 250 dollars for Aguilar and have not stopped there.

From now until April 30, New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center will continue the collection.  All proceeds will go towards Aguilar's ongoing health management and treatment.  If you have any questions, please call them at 201-261-9445.

School Supply Drive for CASA for Children of Bergen County

Originally Released on September 10, 2013.

New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell successfully held their first annual school supply drive for Bergen County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children.  Throughout August, generous patients and staff brought in various school supplies that were collected and donated to children in the court system.

CASA for Children of Bergen County is a non-profit organization that trains volunteers to advocate for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.  The advocates act as the child’s voice in court proceedings during the hard time in their life.

Dr. Margolin is proud to support local foster children in need.  “Being a child in today’s world is difficult enough, but what about the children with no formal support system?  It is important to facilitate foster children in their formative years so they have stability and hope for a better life.  The volunteers at CASA are making this happen,” said Dr. Daniel Margolin, DPM of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center.

In July, New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center also ran a collection for CASA for Children of Bergen County.  Used electronics were collected, recycled and the proceeds went to CASA for Children of Bergen County.

Dr. Margolin of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell has been in practice for over 25 years and has spent over three years as Chairman of the Department of Podiatric Surgery at St. Peters Hospital.  He is also on staff at Valley Hospital.

Medical Assistants Used Heimlich Maneuver to Save Coworker's Life

Attached is a picture of awarded employees: Monica Li and Geri Porcoro (center), by Dr. Maryellen Brucato (left) and Dr. Daniel Margolin (right).
Two employees were awarded for life saving efforts at New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell.  Employees were enjoying their lunch when one of the receptionists started to choke.

The receptionist pointed at her throat and approached the medical assistant standing next to her.  Monica Li, a trained medical assistant, realized her coworker could not breathe and started to perform the Heimlich maneuver.  After a few seconds, Geri Porcoro, another trained medical assistant, got behind the victim and started to conduct abdominal thrusts until the piece of pork lodged in her throat came out.

After the incident, Porcoro was dismayed by her realization.  Luckily for their receptionist she had the incident in the right place with highly trained medical professionals, but what about her three children?

“I thought about my kids,” said Porcoro.  “I hope everyone in schools are CPR certified.  There were six people in the room and only two of us knew how to do CPR.  I encourage everyone to take a CPR course.”

Dr. Dan Margolin, owner and podiatrist at New Jersey Foot and Ankle Centers, is also on staff at Valley Hospital.  He recommends the Family & Friends CPR course given at Valley Hospital.  This course is designed for the families and members of the general community who want to learn the skills, but do not require a completion card.  Topics include CPR and relief of choking for adults, children and infants.  The course is presented in a practice while watching format.  The length of the course is three hours and it costs $40.  For more information, please call 201-291-6100.

New Jersey Foot and Ankle Helps Make Shoes for African Children

Westwood— A little step can make a big difference for children suffering from foot-related diseases in Africa.

The World Health Organization recognizes the need for a simple close toed shoe for children in Africa.  Parasites in the sand, called jiggers or sand fleas, can burrow into exposed skin and lay eggs in exposed feet.  The parasites create an open sore that makes the foot prone to additional parasitic infections, paralysis and even amputation.  The simple and most effective cure is close toed shoes.

Sole Hope was created to help gather and put together materials to make close toed shoes for people in Africa.  This program is unique in the fact that volunteers in the US gather and prepare supplies to ship to Africa where men and women have been trained to assemble the shoes.  This provides jobs for people in Africa who are paid to assemble the materials into shoes for members of their community.

A Sole Hope Shoe Cutting event will take place on Saturday, November 9 at Parkside Community Church located at 545 4th Avenue in Westwood from 7-9 pm.

It is Sole Hope’s mission to “offer hope, healthier lives, and freedom from foot-related diseases through education, jobs and medical relief.”

As part of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center’s Community Outreach Program, Dr. Daniel Margolin, DPM has signed on as a partner for the event.  They are the designated drop off location for donations that will be used to prepare shoe kits.  Materials that are being collected include denim fabric (old jeans), permanent markers, empty plastic milk jugs, gallon size Ziploc bags and cash donations of $10 per kit.

Donations can be dropped off at New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center located at 550 Kinderkamack Road, Suite 202 in Oradell until November 9.  If you have any questions please call 201-261-9445.

Child Fills Big Shoes at New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center

“Every kid should have the opportunity to dance,” said 7-year-old Camryn before her birthday.  Camryn is a little girl who has filled big shoes.

Camryn has been going to podiatrist Dr. Daniel Margolin in Oradell, New Jersey since she was 18-months old.  She always remembered “that nice doctor who gave shoes to children.”

Feeling inspired, for her seventh birthday she asked her mom if she could have a dance party with a DJ and ask all of her friends to bring shoes for less fortunate children.  She wanted kids who cannot afford them to be able to dance too.

“It was amazing how compassionate children can be.  We were astonished how supportive the children were to bring shoes to donate,” said Camryn’s grandmother.

As part of her birthday celebration, all of the children were asked to bring new or slightly used shoes instead of a present.

This lovely little girl collected over 30 pairs of shoes that were donated to needy children in the area.  She polished and cleaned up all of the shoes to be donated to Dr. Margolin’s office.

Dr. Margolin has been running the Shoes for the Needy program for over 26 years.  He has donated thousands of shoes to local charities and shelters.

Over 100 Pairs of New Shoes Donated to Boys & Girls Club of Hackensack

Release June 12, 2014

Over 100 pairs of brand new shoes were donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hackensack & Lodi from New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell.  Dr. Daniel Margolin, DPM has donated thousands of gently shoes to local organizations over the past 26 years through his Shoes for the Needy Campaign.

“When ten boxes of brand new shoes arrived in the waiting room, we didn’t know what to do with them,” said Margolin.  “We decided to give them to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hackensack & Lodi because the popular name brands of shoes are more important to teenagers.”

New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center supports the initiative of the Boys and Girls Clubs as “the positive place for kids.”  In addition to their podiatry services, New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center’s Community Outreach Program sponsors the Bergen County Foundation for a Drug-Free World working with area youth.  They provide free educational information on the eleven most commonly abused drugs, as well as provide programs for schools, after school clubs and community organizations.

Fifteen people in the tri-state area were awarded as exemplary citizens in the fight against drug abuse at the recent 7th Annual Drug-Free Hero’s Awards Gala in Midtown New York.

Among the awardees was rapper Teemonee who has helped with over 200 programs for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World in New York and New Jersey within the last year. He was very grateful to be recognized by the nonprofit for all of the work he has been doing and encourages others to not be afraid and take the initiative.

Locally, Dr. Daniel Margolin of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell sponsors the Bergen County Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World. Since taking the position last June, they have done about 30 events throughout the county.

Margolin has made it his initiative to help out the local community by becoming a resource for drug-free education to local schools, after-school programs, community groups, etc., free of charge, to educate youth about the harmful effects of drugs so they can make the right decision if they come to that crossing.

Anyone interested in partaking in the drug-free education services can contact New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center’s Community Outreach Coordinator, Brielle, at 201-261-9445 or email DrugFreeWorldNJ.Brielle@gmail.com.
